Sadly, today is the last day of HSJI 2019. We’ve enjoyed working with you and seeing you develop new skills and create wonderful projects. This morning you have an 8:30-10:30 a.m. small group session followed by our awards program from 11 a.m-noon.
After your last class this morning, instructors will walk with you to Ernie Pyle Hall Auditorium for our final program and awards at 11 a.m. Please let your parents know that they can park in either the pay lot across the street from EP Hall or in the Indiana Memorial Union pay lot, which is off the circle drive next to EP Hall. After the program, we’ll all head back to Spruce for check-out. Students may ride with their parents from EP Hall to Spruce.

What? How can it be? Session 1 of HSJI today ends today. Thank you for a wonderful week of learning about, practicing and celebrating high school journalism. This morning you have an 8:30-10:30 a.m. small group session followed by our awards program from 11 a.m-noon. If your family is attending our awards session in Willkie Auditorium, please have them park in one of the lots near Spruce or behind Willkie and meet you to walk over to Willkie. Move-out will begin after the closing session.
During your small group session this morning, please complete our workshop evaluation. We appreciate your feedback, which helps us plan next year’s Institute.

Today we conclude HSJI 2018 with an 8:30-10:30 a.m. small group session followed by our awards program from 11 a.m-noon. The counseling staff asks you to keep the following things in mind as you move out today:
Make sure your room is clean and your furniture is back in its original position.
Check all drawers, shelves, and wardrobes for personal belongings. Don’t leave anything behind.

More than a workshop
HSJI is a journalism workshop, yes, but also a time and space to sample college life and make friends with student journalists from across the country and even a few from across the world.

Bautista sits at a piano and listens to the sign on it that reads “Do Not Touch!”
“I really didn’t like the process at first but now every time I see a piano I want to play it,” Bautista said.
Dean Hume teaches the importance of communication to the sports broadcasting students. They were challenged to find the most interesting information about their peers’ lives.
“Birthday Girl” Ashley Johnson takes her newly acquired equipment back to the Documentary Film Class.
Marshall runs up to it to swing around on it. Marshall loved being outdoors to see animals, especially while running.

Television news students present newscast
On the final morning of the TV News workshop, students met in The Media School’s Ken and Audrey Beckley Studio in Franklin Hall. After a brief rehearsal playing the roles of floor director, camera and teleprompter operators and anchors, students broadcast the following newscast on the screen in Franklin Hall Commons. The newscast incorporates intros and tosses written by students, plus each student’s feature package project from the workshop.

Online scholarship application
HSJI students who are rising seniors are eligible to apply for a scholarship to attend IU. Please complete the online application by the Wednesday, July 19, 7:45 a.m. deadline.
