Advanced Design

Advanced Design participants will gain hands-on experiences in visual storytelling, designing in-depth feature pages and producing interactive graphics for Web-based and print publications. Students also will explore advanced features of the Adobe Creative Suite software. Conceptual topics will include how to use design elements to engage readers and create effective visual messages. Students in the Advanced Design concentration will collaborate with other HSJI Newsroom students to publish projects in the HSJI Newsroom Gallery. Although students must select a concentration (reporting, design, photo/video, or social media) when registering, they will have opportunities to practice multiple forms of journalism.
Students enrolled in Advanced Design must be comfortable using Adobe Creative Suite software, such as InDesign and Photoshop.
